Specialization: General orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation for the hand and upper extremity, musicians' injuries, pediatric upper extremity injuries, and sports medicine injuries to hand and elbow. Musician's injuries and custom splinting.

Allison Shearer first became passionate about the field of Occupational Therapy when she was a teenager.

“After seeing how much the occupational therapists helped my grandfather regain his independence after experiencing a stroke, I knew I wanted to learn those skills to help people,” she says.

Allison earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music and Biology from the University of Virginia. She received her Master of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

She is affiliated with the American Association of Hand Therapists and the American Occupational Therapy Association.

She has experience in outpatient rehabilitation, in-patient rehabilitation, pediatrics and geriatrics.

Allison treats patients with neurological and orthopedic diagnosis, including those who are both pre and post-surgical. She is especially interested in helping patients with hand and upper extremity injuries achieve maximum independence with their daily activities.

Besides general orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation for the hand and upper extremity, Allison treats musicians’ injuries, pediatric upper extremity injuries and sports medicine injuries to the hand and elbow. She does custom splinting for musician’s injuries.

In her spare time Allison enjoys reading, running and playing the flute. She currently plays with the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra.
