Aquatic Therapy

Recover in the Warmth of our Heated Therapy Pools

PT@acac has access to therapeutic pools at both acac Fitness & Wellness center locations, Albemarle Square and Downtown. The warm water pools are maintained at 94 degrees F to provide a soothing, relaxing environment for painful joints and muscles while performing exercises during your therapy session.

The pool depth ranges from 3.5 feet to 7 feet with ample room for walking and other aquatic exercises. For patients who do not tolerate the warmer temperatures or need a higher intensity aquatic program, PT@acac has access to a larger activity pool that is kept at 85 degrees F.

What are the benefits of Aquatic Therapy?

  • buouyancy of the water decreases compressive forces on the body, particularly the spine, to allow for more comfortable exercise.

  • water provides resistance but also support to enable exercise progression that normally might be more challenging on land.

  • hydro-static pressure from the water helps to reduce swelling in the legs and feet

  • warm water temperature helps promote muscle relaxation and increase circulation

Our Aquatic Rehab Program is Customized to You

Aquatic physical therapy applies standard physical therapy practices & principles but with the patient in the water.

Before initiating aquatic physical therapy, the patient is evaluated by a physical therapist in the clinic and a personalized plan of care is determined.

Most patients are guided through exercises with the therapist on the pool deck; should you require a higher level of assistance, the therapist may be able to be in the water with you.
