National Athletic Training Month 2025: Celebrating Champions in Health Care

March is here, and with it comes a special time to recognize the unsung heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep athletes safe and healthy: athletic trainers. March is National Athletic Training Month (NATM), a month-long celebration sponsored by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA). This is our opportunity to shine a spotlight on the vital role athletic trainers play in sports—from injury prevention to treatment and rehabilitation—and to acknowledge their unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of athletes at every level.

What Exactly Do Athletic Trainers Do?

Athletic trainers are licensed healthcare professionals who specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating sports-related injuries. They aren't just found on the sidelines during big games—they are everywhere athletes are, from local high schools and colleges to professional sports teams, gyms, and clinics. Their job is multifaceted: they evaluate injuries, create rehabilitation plans, and provide immediate care when accidents happen. Their expertise ensures that athletes have the support they need to recover and get back in the game safely and effectively.

Why Do We Celebrate National Athletic Training Month?

National Athletic Training Month is more than just a time to hand out high-fives and thank you notes. It's a dedicated month to raise awareness about the incredible contributions of athletic trainers in the world of sports and health. Each year, NATA chooses a different theme for NATM, focusing on different aspects of the athletic training profession. The goal is to educate the public, encourage collaboration, and advocate for the athletic training community.

This month helps remind us that athletic trainers do much more than assist athletes—they help promote safety, reduce the risk of long-term injuries, and support recovery processes that allow people to stay active and healthy. Whether it’s a youth soccer player, a professional football star, or someone simply trying to stay fit at the gym, athletic trainers are there ensuring that people lead active lives without compromising their health.

A Special Thank You to Athletic Trainers

Behind every athlete’s success is a dedicated athletic trainer who plays a role in keeping them safe. It’s easy to focus on the athletes who get the glory and the headlines, but athletic trainers are the ones who ensure that the athletes can reach those milestones in the first place.

So, during National Athletic Training Month, let's give a shoutout to the incredible athletic trainers in our communities, schools, and sports programs. They are truly the healthcare heroes of the sports world, and this month is the perfect time to recognize the invaluable service they provide.

How You Can Get Involved

If you’re a fan of sports or simply want to show support for athletic trainers, there are plenty of ways to get involved during NATM:

  • Spread Awareness: Share the message about the importance of athletic trainers on social media or in conversations with friends and family.
  • Thank an Athletic Trainer: If you know an athletic trainer personally, reach out and let them know how much you appreciate their hard work.
  • Learn More: Take some time to educate yourself about the athletic training profession. You can visit NATA’s website to find resources and information.

Athletic trainers are integral to the health and safety of athletes everywhere. Let's celebrate their contributions, not just this month, but all year long. Here's to the professionals who keep us in the game, no matter what! 👏
