While some Charlottesvillians may have not yet attended a match of this storied rugby club, started by UVA law school students and operating since 1961, most visitors to the heart of UVA Grounds have noted their home playng field: the pitch at "Mad Bowl" on the aptly named Rugby Road. Madison Bowl is flanked by many historic fraternity houses and its condition has vastly improved over the years. Learn more at https://virginiamensrugby.com/our-history/

UVA Rugby's Home Playing Field: Then and now

From virginiamensrugby.com: Madison Bowl Field (Mad Bowl) is a three-acre natural grass field behind Madison Hall that was renovated in 2005 to provide a Bermuda grass surface with irrigation and drainage. Field open daily from dawn until dusk. Often called “Mad Bowl,” this field was one of the University’s original playing fields and became famous for Easter celebrations of the 1960s and ’70s. Parking is available at the Culbreth Parking Garage.

Ample parking for activities at Mad Bowl is available at nearby Culbreth Parking Garage located at 130 Culbreth Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
